Areas reduced to ash:

Whole neighbourhoods are reduced to nothing but rubble. In some parts, the sight was reminiscent of a battlefield littered with what bombs left behind. One neighbourhood is now known only by its streetoutlines since all houses are destroyed, according to The Associated Press. A quilt of intact houses intermixed with destroyed houses was a gruesome reminder of how fires burned haphazardly in another neighbourhood.

Returning evacuees face heart-wrenching scenes of devastation. Charred timbers of once-proud homes stand amid blackened landscapes. In one area, the remains of an outdoor fireplace and wrecked home sit beside a pool now filled with soot-darkened water. Families mourn the loss of their homes, with some seen gazing at the smouldering remnants of their lives.

Lives in the Flames

Residents of Los Angeles are living through the crisis. Flames burn in several areas as locals ride past burning structures or walk through smoke-filled streets. The scene speaks to the resilience of those affected, even as the fires show no signs of abating.
