The Delhi Police have detained a Class 12 student for allegedly sending a series of bomb threats to numerous schools across the national capital, according to news agency ANI.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (South Delhi), Ankit Chauhan, stated that the suspect was behind 23 recent threatening emails sent to different schools in Delhi. “During interrogation, he admitted to sending similar threat emails in the past as well,” Chauhan was quoted as saying.

Officials told NDTV that the minor resorted to this alarming method to avoid taking school examinations, aiming to cause panic and get the tests canceled.

On Thursday alone, approximately 10 educational institutions received bomb threats, continuing the pattern of such incidents in Delhi, as reported by PTI. One of the targeted schools, Venkateshwar Global School, received a threatening email shortly after a blast at the Rohini Prashant Vihar PVR Multiplex on November 28, according to PTI.

PTI cited a police officer who revealed that two siblings enrolled in the school were behind the email, attempting to delay exams. During counseling, the siblings admitted they got the idea from similar incidents in the past. The students were allowed to go after their parents were issued a warning.

Two other schools in Rohini and Paschim Vihar were also targeted with threatening emails from students for the same reason: they wanted their schools to close. These students were also let off after counseling sessions and warnings to their parents.

Bomb threats have caused chaos in more than 100 schools in Delhi over the past 11 days, as per PTI. Investigations revealed that these emails were sent using a VPN (Virtual Private Network), complicating efforts to trace the senders.

Since May, over 50 bomb threat emails have targeted not only schools but also hospitals, airports, and airline companies in Delhi. Despite efforts, police are yet to achieve significant breakthroughs in resolving these cases.
