Bhubaneswar (Odisha) [India]: Odisha Law Minister Prithviraj Harichandan has emphasized the significant role of the Indian diaspora in driving Odisha’s development. Speaking at the 18th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas (PBD) Convention, Harichandan expressed hope that the diaspora would engage more actively in the state’s cultural and economic growth.

Appeal for Greater Involvement

The Minister highlighted Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s appeal to the Indian diaspora to connect with their roots and contribute to India’s progress.

“The Honourable Prime Minister has called on the Indian diaspora to participate in the development of the nation, particularly in states like Odisha. He urged them to explore the state’s rich heritage, culture, and entrepreneurship opportunities,” Harichandan stated.

The Minister underscored the importance of the diaspora’s involvement in creating a “Viksit Bharat” (Developed India) and “Viksit Odisha” (Developed Odisha).

Building Bonds and Opportunities

Harichandan added that fostering a natural bond between the diaspora and their homeland could lead to meaningful contributions.

“Frequent visits to India and Odisha will strengthen the connection between the diaspora and their origins. This will not only benefit Odisha but also contribute to India’s overall development,” he said.

The Pravasi Bharatiya Divas Convention

The Pravasi Bharatiya Divas Convention, the Government of India’s flagship event, serves as a platform for engaging with the Indian diaspora. The 18th edition, organized in collaboration with the Odisha state government, is being held from January 8 to 10 in Bhubaneswar.

Harichandan expressed optimism that the diaspora would heed PM Modi’s call to explore Odisha and actively support its development initiatives.

“I believe the diaspora will happily accept this appeal and encourage others to participate in India’s growth story,” he concluded.
